Collector Spotlight: Macy blends nature + fine art in her beautiful Denver home

In September 2021, after a summer of taking my art practice more seriously than ever, I finally made plans to release my first official collection on my first website as a fine artist.

I had my photos uploaded, my website prepared, and I decided to make the collection go live during a trip that my husband and I were taking to Nashville. Sitting at my friend’s kitchen table, I was a ball of nerves and self-doubt – wondering if these paintings would sell and who might buy them.

Everything went live; I sent my email, posted on Instagram… and then waited in anticipation.

The first sale showed up in my inbox.

It was to a buyer named Macy for the painting titled Moving Forward, a piece after which the whole collection was named.

I didn’t know this at the time, but Macy would go on to be one of my most loyal collectors over the following years – filling her home with many of my paintings.

“Anna’s work has always intrigued me,” said Macy. “Not only because of the way she combines color in her paintings but also because her work is timeless. Through her abstract art, she creates a mood, and you can truly feel it in her paintings.”

After Moving Forward, she added a piece called Waves to her collection, followed by the painting Study of a Shell (one of my personal favorites). I sent the artwork to her with a little bag that contained the inspiration for the painting: a small calico scallop shell.

Macy said, “I was so excited when she included it with the art. I have both the painting and shell on display since it only feels right to display both together! This piece stood out to me because I grew up in Florida and always loved walking on the beach and collecting shells, driftwood, sand, rocks, etc... I especially loved going to the beach in the evenings and watching the Florida storms roll towards the shore – something my husband and I miss most about FL. I feel very fortunate to have been able to purchase this painting.”

Having grown up in Florida and living in Colorado for eight years, it’s easy to see that nature is close to Macy’s heart. This is evident not only in the way Macy styles her home but also in the art she collects.

“Despite working in Accounting, I have always loved being in nature. Whether it be for landscape photography, gardening, or hiking, I always feel at peace when I am outdoors. In addition to loving the outdoors, interior decorating has also been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. So, naturally, creating a home that incorporates elements from nature has been my favorite way to express myself!”

I love Macy’s attention to detail and the way she effortlessly infuses her love for the outdoors into her home – you can see this in the materials of her furniture, her impressive house plants, or the sweet souvenirs from a hike (like driftwood or pinecones). It’s impressive how she blends all of this with her fine art collection!

When I asked her what styling tips she has for someone looking to incorporate more artwork in their space, here’s what she shared:

“Art is a statement piece. Whether you have it displayed by itself, on a gallery wall, or leaning on a shelf, it is the layer that I didn’t know I needed until I had it. It helps make your home feel lived-in and unique.

If you’re looking to incorporate more artwork into your home, I recommend looking at your space and noting which walls or shelves are a focal point. When you walk into a room, where do your eyes gravitate? These will be the walls where you will want to place your new art.

I also want to state that a well-curated gallery wall takes time. The gallery wall in my bedroom came together after I had collected four separate pieces from Anna and two other artists over time. I had a feeling that the colors of Moving Forward and Waves would work well together, and I was so happy when Waves arrived, and I could complete my gallery wall.”

Macy was also kind enough to share what having my art means to her.

“It feels exciting to be able to display such unique and interesting art in my home. By having Anna’s work on display, I have art that is unique only to our home. I have received many compliments from friends and have loved telling them about my paintings and Anna’s work. Anna’s paintings are some of my most cherished pieces in my home.”

And when I asked her what she would say to anyone considering collecting on of my paintings for themselves, here’s what she added:

“Do it! Anna’s paintings have so many layers to them that you get to see with your own eyes when you own an original. Now, don’t get me wrong, I do own one of her prints, and I love it so much. However, if you have a means to support Anna by purchasing an original, you will not be disappointed. There is just something so satisfying about holding the raw canvas on which she labored over to create beautiful art. There is a reason I keep coming back for more of Anna’s paintings; it’s because each piece is unique, colorful, and timeless.”

I’m so thankful that my artwork gets to live in Macy’s home, and thankful that she took her time to share her experience of being my collector!

Macy is also to be credited for each of these beautiful photos of her home. To see more of her beautiful interior design content and projects, you can follow her on Instagram @wanderingmyhome.
