About the Painting: “Storm on the Sea of Galilee

Storm on the Sea of Galilee, 2023, 36” x 50”, mixed media on canvas, sold

One of my favorite pieces that I made in 2023 is a painting called Storm on the Sea of Galilee (pictured above).

I didn’t technically make this painting for my friends, but as I was working on it, I remember thinking “This feels like it’ll probably end up in Rachel and Andy’s home.” You can see in the photos as you keep scrolling that it now hangs in their beautiful dining room.

Inspired by one of my favorite Bible stories and one of my favorite paintings (Rembrandt’s Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee), this work reminds me that I can always cling to God in the midst of life’s harshest storms and He will calm the waves that scare me.

What I love so much about this canvas is that while it’s very dark at first glance, looking at it longer will reveal more light, more markings, and hues that symbolize hope in the midst of the darkness.

It’s a special thing when your most devoted and encouraging collectors are also your best friends. I asked Rachel what this painting means to her, and here’s what she sent me:

“Your painting, “Storm on the Sea of Galilee,” feels representative of a very difficult season that our family has gone through, but now that it’s finally hanging in our home, it’s representative of the waters we have passed through, and the way the Lord has sustained us.”

While the original painting is sold, prints of this piece will officially become available on February 13, 2024!

Prints coming February 13, 2024
