This painting is inspired by my visit to Luis Barragán’s Casa Gilardi in Mexico City. The courtyard, with it’s fuchsia and periwinkle walls, are built around a majestic jacaranda tree. When I visited with friends for my birthday in April, the tree was in full bloom - it’s flowers a direct match to the color of the wall that sat behind it.

Whenever the breeze blew, the tree would rain down flowers on us in the courtyard like a soft confetti. It was such a calming and inspiring afternoon, I wanted to memorialize the memory with a painting. This led me to make “When The Jacaranda Tree Sways”.
